Welcome to the first Hockey College Blog post. I will kick it off by making predictions for the upcoming weekend of college hockey play around the country with a little explanation for the scores. I’m not going to throw a guess at every single game because that’s just excessive so here are a few predictions and my reasoning on games that intrigue me this weekend.
Colorado College @ University of North Dakota(Ralph Engelstad Arena, Grand Forks, ND)
Colorado College has been playing terrible this year, I mean they just suck. There’s no nice way to explain how bad the usually offensively talented Tigers have been this year, winning just 2 games scoring an embarrassing 1.67 goals per game. UND is coming off a 5 game winning streak however those games came almost a month ago and their goalie Mr. Zane Gothberg looked inconsistent against lesser teams in the exhibition games that were played in Vancouver last weekend. The good guys need Zane to step it up coming down the stretch if they’d like to be playing come dancing time in March. Also, Friday’s game at Ralph Engelstad Arena is on CBS Sports Network in glorious High Definition so it is a great stage to play in front of potential recruits which is just another reason they need to take care of business and look good doing so. That being said, I say North Dakota squeaks out of this series with a sweep closing out the weekend with a Saturday OT win using the recent departure to the CHL of “he who will not be named” as motivation to bring this group together for the stretch run into the 2nd half. UND 4-2, 3-2(OT)
#7 Providence College @ #4 Boston College(Conte Forum, Chestnut Hill, MA)
I don’t know what I think of Providence College yet but this weekend will be a major deciding point(for me at least) as to whether I think they are to be taken seriously. Coming off a tie at a bad Merrimack team last weekend and a loss to Northeastern on Tuesday, things don’t get any easier going into the home of the Boston College Eagles. BC has most recently beaten Notre Dame last Saturday but also have more curious results on the season, like their last loss, a 5-4 loss to Holy Cross on November 29th. But I do think Providence will get exposed by an always talented Eagles team. BC 5-2
